Follow this quickstart guide so you can get up and running
with home schooling as quickly as possible...
Quickstart guide with 4 easy steps:
- Contact your local support group or home schooling organization. They can help you a great
deal and advise you as to the local home school regulations. The easiest way for you to do this is by
going to the HSLDA (Home School Legal Defence Association) website and search for organizations in your
area. Click on USA to choose the United States
or CAN for Canada and search for your area.
With the Canadian version you have to click on Home Schooling and then on Links to get to
the information on support groups in your area.
- Choose a home schooling curriculum.
It is important to decide which curriculum and publisher best suits you and your children. Different
factors need to be considered such as religious point of view, morals and academic level and focus.
Read some home school textbooks
reviews here. Then decide which one best suits your children. You can buy the curriculum at a
discount. After you decide on the curriculum or publisher you want it is a good idea to compare kits
and package deals by grade level or price. You can even piece together textbooks, workbooks and other
materials from different publishers all at one online bookstore by going to our affiliate,
Learning Things and clicking on the curriculum you
want either by grade level or publisher.
- Study the lesson plan that comes with the curriculum. Try to think 'outside the box' meaning
you are free to include or omit or modify lessons in the curriculum to suit your needs. Remember, experts
agree that you, the parent, are the best teacher for your children.
- Start home schooling! Dig in and get started. "The rudder doesn't take effect until the boat
is in motion." This sounds simplistic but you will learn as you go. You can always come back for more
help.
Then you just have to stay in touch! If you need help with any of the above steps of this quickstart
guide or any other aspect of home schooling please contact us. That is what we are here for. If you follow all 4 steps of this
quickstart guide you will be in good shape and should succeed at home schooling your children!
